First Contact

New song by Ekalopse

Pupendai: "That's right. Another song from Ekalopse. The idea behind this one was to just build up from nothing. Or from an interesting beat anyway. The lyrics are about repeating the same old mistakes in social situations and  love."

The General "You'll notice the sax! Bringing some of my Jazz in from New Orleans. I had a lot of fun with this one. We created the beats with various different drums and layered it quite a bit."

First Contact - Ekalopse
Lyrics:

I'm listening to the same old tune
in my headphones

I'm walking down the same old street now
throat so sour

And everything I do I try
I'm walking and i feel alive
I'm wishing every dream i had came true

oo oo oo

i wish i could fly
i wish i could fly

I need a place to stay
caus, when i walk
the ground moves away
leaving me to feel
terrified of this ordeal

And i have no confidence
first contacts a preference
No living without a call
But Im on my own (on my own)

And all my hours passed away
Leaving me here
Without a voice, such a waste
Rain water and tears

This town hall won't let me go
My head keeps on moaning (keeps on moaning)

i wish i could fly
i wish i could fly

Easter

It's not Easter... so why the title? What does Easter represent?

Who knows??

The General came over for a holiday from the US. Or a VACATION as he'd probably call it now. Anyway so me made a new song. It's inspired by trying to figure out life without The General. Most of the time I've just been (Sorry, this is Pupendai typing). I just been sitting around on the sofa watching Eastenders Omnibus and Cats in your Attic. Some quality television but not very constructive.
So I actually wrote the main melody for the song when I was trying to get up and make new pals and get back into life without my bud The General.
When The General came back he loved it and we worked together to make it into something more. Now, it's very Ekalopsy. Thanks mate.
See you again soon

- Pupendai

Lyrics

Easter

The cracks on the world
are reaching below my feet
She knows how to turn her head away
for me to see.

mmm mmm
Kneeling with my gun
bullets at the rising sun

mmm mmm
nanananana

I'm dusting the craters out my hair
Dusting the craters out my hair
The Sun is made of glass
So lets smash through

mmm mmm
Kneeling with my gun
bullets at the rising sun

mmm mmm
nanananana

Quick 'Reality Therapy' track by track from Ekalopse. "Pupendai opens up about lyrics"

Yo, it's Pupendai here! The General is in the US so I thought I'd take this opportunity to talk about the influences behind the lyrics on Reality Therapy.

Track by track!

Title: Reality Therapy

Kind of speaks for itself... but if you're thick like me... It's us getting through difficult life situations through music. Easy.

1. Caravan on the Moon

This song is about getting all these negative thoughts about a moment and a person and just letting it drift away. Specifically the person and moment in this track was an old pal of the bands who betrayed us. We once asked him/her if she/he would be able to give us some information on how human life would venture into space. He/she spoke of space caravans. That was a long time ago.
Pushing these negative moments away is not an easy task... hence the almost suffocation.

2. Living all at Once

This song is about long distance relationships and how the modern day has both helped create them and destroy them. Created with internet and metal birds and destroyed by being out of reach. I don't usually go on about my personal life so I won't start now. Living all at Once is also a reference to growing up.

3. Soul to a Brick Wall

Not understanding your other half. Trying to read minds! I went out with a human once, different species so it was a bit weird. Totally different thought processes. She wanted this, I wanted that. We got on well, and she was a looker' but somethin didn't click. Or did it? I dunno.

4. Coin/ Toss

There was this missus I was with once ya know. She never made any decisions, never got off her bum and never told me how she felt. But I'm just such a nice calm bloke of a dog that I could not get upset. Not out loud anyways. So that's wa' this songs bout ya dig?

5. Take Aways

Mostly the vocals in this track were improvised but it had something to do with going to a wedding. Having a great selection of food and buying your loved one a chicken burger (UNLESS SHE/HE IS A VEGETARIAN OR ACTUALLY A CHICKEN (AWKWARD)). So yeah. I love the end of this bleh.

6. Bottle of a Friend

Could be about being an alcoholic... but it's not! It's actually about looking at statues in the rain to cheer myself up. I do tend to do that often. But I get upset when they can't respond to me.. they're stone ya see. So bottle of a friend just kinda came from the idea that the statues are closed in and unresponsive. But at least seeing them is calming. Enough about statues.

7. Space Emo

This is quite an optimistic song despite the title. The lyrics kind of ask firstly, does protesting work? The question is never answered... but the idea is that the voice is feeling negative at a protest and in various other day to day situations. So the voice is waiting for someone to come along and be a friend for all these times the voice is troubled.
Though the lyrics are real vague on this one dudes

8. Moan Moan Moan

It's a bit sad really. These lyrics are about giving up on love and life and believing the universe is in control. Packing up and jumping into the wind. I suppose there could be some hope in there but I doubt it....

9. Daffodil

Yeah this one is quite similar to Coin/Toss in meaning but it's also about a game I played called To the Moon which was awesome. The brick wall thing seems to be a reoccurring theme...

10. World Tear Us Apart

A slower version of the Barbie/ Ken song innit.Another reoccurring theme here, long distance. Difference is, this song is very very very VERY optimistic. After a rocky start there is big hope in the heart.

11. The Individual

We wrote this track after watching Brian Cox's Human Universe Series. The General took a very spacey sound inspiration from it. Personally, I took something quite different. I was, once again relating it to myself and my relationships. For one, how insignificant and how amazing life is. Time to actually stop watching television and enjoy the world. Love the world and love the people in it. Unfortunately not everyone is like that. In the song I sing about appreciating our species as an amazing coincidence. It was a great stroke of luck we managed to gain the kind of brain powers we needed to evolve like we have. Brilliant. So love one another.

12. Anthem for Rejects

Pretty clear from the title. Rejects belong together but they can't be together because they're rejects.

13. The Lonely Song

This song is about losing contact with a loved one, whether friend or sumthin else. As well as just generally listening to your own heart beat and wondering if you should eat some more Maltesers and go to sleep.

14. James Bralant you're OK

No real lyrical meaning. It's sound clips taken from a youtube video. We made it for a pal of ours so it remains to be important on the album.

15. Pyramid Games

This our favourite track at the moment I think. It's about being in a relationship with someone that can't find their mature nature. They're stuck playing games forever more. The pyramids are a reference to when I used to play as a pup and my love of Egypt. The thunder cutting through the play is like when LIFE interrupts play. Sometimes you have to face it and talk. If you don't.. well no progress is made and you can never play happily again.

16. Swap Meet Sound

It's about experiencing change and living somewhere else. I put the relation between not understanding people speaking a different language and that feeling of a full understanding between two people. Because interests are so similar everyone else's speaking just sounds like mumbles.

17. Come and Go

Similar to the first track (Caravan on the moon), in that it's talking about old friends of ours. Some of which did not betray, but just decided to disapear. Where are we left after that?  Feeling dizzy, again.

These two I'd prefer not to talk about!  Ta ra for now.
18. Death of a Lyricist
19. M.D.I

Lyrics:

Caravan on the Moon

sleep tight
and rising
caravan, caravan, caravan
sleep tight
and rising
dracula, was very peculiar
it was important to me
to see my space return
it was important to me
to see my money
sleep tight
don't let the bed bugs bite
no one can believe
why does everyone sink away?
caravan on the moon
caravan on the moon

the air conditioning failed
and the vision is waving
and the sweat is dripping
sleep tight
it'll be over soon
don't shake, don't struggle

why does everyone sink away?
why does everyone sink away?

you don't need to hold onto the earth
it's a relaxing sight
many have come to observe.
caravan on the moon
on the moon

the caravan is rising
sleep tight
the caravan is rising
sleep tight

New Songs: Pyramid Games

Lyrics:

Your old frown
always gets me down
walkytalk your way around
It's festival
you've dressed as so
but focus, seems to have drowned
Over, and over
When the pyramids are gone away
Under the covers
When the thunder cuts through your play ( cuts through your pla-ay)
Your buddy, is imaginary
But he died just moments ago (r.i.p)
your hubby, mourns as he
is left to sit in the corner alone
All alone. Years away, a place to stay
The dusts ok. I'll stay a day
(it goes)
Over, and over
When the pyramids are gone away
Under the covers
When the thunder cuts through your play ( cuts through your pla-ay)
just set yourself free
we're sat here lonely
just educate your mind

The General: "I like to call this our bleep bloop album. Some interesting stuff going on in there. But I must admit more effort COULD have been put into the tracks. The General: "My most brassy album I think. Possibly very epic, a little bit apocalyptic. Might be my fave album, it does fall flat a lot. I reject not doing some things to make it better. Plus Pups voice was pretty terrible. Fave tracks, Airline, War is Over, Radio Rodent.. um... Comrades..."

2012
Album: The Yeti Man's Demo Anthems (Unavaliable)
Was available for a short time download.

Pupendai: "It was some scrappy loose ends. I can't even remember what was on it dude.."

The General: "I fun little album. I liked to call it the Steamtrain album. I liked The Yeti Man and Steamtrain."

2012
EP: At Our Criminal Worst

Pupendai: "A short few songs. We had not produced much else other than some demos in a long while so just thought... we probably should put some complete sounding songs together. I quite like this EP. Though for me, it's aged quickly."

The General: "This was released without me even knowing! But I'm glad it was. Wings is one of my favourite produced tracks. Mop, the bass player on this EP was the best bass player I'd ever worked with. RIP mate."

Tracklist:
1. Foxtrot
2. Wings
3. Lance is not on this floor
4. Steamtrain

2015
Album: Reality Therapy

Pupendai: "Our most personal album yet. We're experimenting with different sounds, different vocals and lyrics. We take you from drama at home to drama in space, depressing in the soul and love. Heck I don't know. Some tracks are especially there to experiment with sound, some are there especially to  try out some lyrics. Some are there for both reasons. These are all of the tracks of our recent days. I've spoken a lot about my relationships in this one, as well as bringing up the past of Mr. Bindy."

The General: "Well due to the fact that an album was never planned. This is the most relaxed album we could have made! It does make me sad to see Pupendai crying when singing but what the heck! The songs mean a lot to me as well. A song like Living all at Once, possibly a stand out track is just ghostly.... This track is what I've always aimed for in a perfect Ghostpop sound. We do hope people enjoy."

Tracklist:

  1. Tracklist:

    1. Easter
    2. Caravan on the Moon
    3. Living all at Once

2016
Album: OK, WE WILL

Pupendai: "Since Reality Therapy I have kept writing all these really personal lyrics. It's very embarrassing. But yeah, no change here. Still very personal. The General was not involved too much on this one. It was mostly me and new band member 'Steps Stairs.' But if you ever hear any magic on the album that was most likely The General throwing in something special at the end.
Him being in the U.S makes it a bit difficult. Oh well. This is our new Ekalopse album."

The General: "I really love some of the sounds that have come out of this one. Makes me love my friend, Pupendai even more. I hope he never stops."

Stairs Steps: "It was certainly odd going in to a project like this. Ekalopse have such a legacy and I was soon to be a part of it. I'm so happy Pupendai felt comfortable enough to make such personal music with me."

1. Forever Alone

10. Christmasish Song
11. Another Depressing Song
12. Reasonably Optimistic Song

Rejected Tracks:

  1. We Rhyme

2016
Album: Fun but Dead

Pupendai: "Simon (Stairs Steps) basically wrote all these songs and then when The General visited from America he basically said ' scrap this, scrap that, this is amazing, scrap that!' and he added a whole load of other stuff. He really took full advantage of his holiday in the uk. I very rarely saw him leave the studio. He's very passionate about Ekalopse and that makes me so happy.
Though he's kind of upset there are so many song titles with the word 'THE' in it...."

S. Steps: "Ekalopse is a weird monster. Pupendai and the General kind of say, 'anything goes!' and all this mental stuff  happens and it does not really matter if none of it works. It's funny like that. But yeah, I'm proud of what we did. I'm more confident now since the last album. Also, I think I'm the only collab musician to have not died after the first album so that must be a good sign!"

The General: "I'm busy."

Pupendai: "We were just trying to make a happier sounding album after all of the misery in the last 2. There is still some misery hiding here but it's more unleashed and free. We have broken out of the depressing hole that was 'Ok, We Will.' Generally we hope the sound is more jolly.

Tracklist:

  1. Disappearing Now

Tracklist:

1. Forever Alone
2. First Contact

4. Diary

Tracklist:

  1. Disappearing Now
  2. In The Morning
  3. Same for The Girl
  4. Out of The Loop
  5. Escape to The Movies
  6. Never Gonna Change
  7. Keep Telling Me
  8. Gossip Shops
  9. Kidding (Feat. Erin)

2017
Album: No Birds

Pupendai: "This album is a bit like Reality Therapy in that it is a mixmatch bag of diffent emotions over a long period of time, mostly depressed... but there are light moments in there like Lighthouse and Short Boat Song. There was a lot more electronic stuff in this one, it was also a bit more experimental than Fun but Dead. Certainly going back Reality Therapy days."

Simon Stairs Steps: "Still enjoying working on the records and have yet to die horrifically! What a thing! I must be good luck. I wrote a lot of songs on this one but my all time fave is Pupendai's 'Never Be Happy.' That poor guy sure has demons."

The General: "I really hope the fans like this one. I do thing is sounds very very Ekalopse, if you like that about us you will hopefully enjoy this. My fave is Comfortable. I'm glad I am back by the way, my jazz career in the US started off well but.......... after a while I became forgettable."

Ekalopse release surprise new album: REALITY THERAPY

So we've had these new tracks lying around. Our faves we stuck on the EKAPOPS collection. But our list was growing to a point we thought, let's just make a new album! Our last album was released in 2011 I believe with only an EP and Collection released since.
2015, the year of Reality Therapy.

Our most personal record yet, and I'll stress that some tracks are so personal we didn't even care what we were doing so they sound terrible....
It's an art piece I suppose. Of depression. I'm not sure if there any happy songs on this album. No Pirates. Though the James Bralant song is oddly disturbing.

Anyway, Reality Therapy is here and this is the cover.

Hi everyone!
I wanted to compile another Track update. Basically letting everyone know of the newest tracks released in case you missed them! The General and I were very hard at work for a portion of time before he disapeared off to New Orleans or whatever to be a Jazz king.
So here is a quick list. If we had a new album guess these would be the ruddy songs.

2. Coin/Toss
3. Swap Meet Sound
4. World Tear us Apart
5. Easy Street
6. Come and Go
7. Death of a Lyricist
8. Riots on the Streets (Vocal Remix)

Coin/Toss

New song released and added to the Ekapops: Ghostpop Collection!
Enjoy!

Single Cover

Coin/Toss Lyrics

We can tell
when you've been looking down the well
There aint no place
I tell you now, there aint no place to call home

Back In, unpack
In a country with someone you love
Back down, unpack
Reality is dawning on you

Packing up, taking notes
Recalling the times you decided
You grounding down, taking naps
Looking up at the stars in the night

It's hollow, you could hide out here
If we lay low. I'll overcome my fears.
I'm over powered with my calm mind
I seem soft boiled.
Breakfast for the soul.

Back In, unpack
In a country with someone you love
Back down, unpack
Reality is dawning on you

YOYOYO Eka-pops: The Ghostpop Collection Official Release

You can now listen our new album!

This collection has (23) songs from the past and present (And some would argue, the future).

Some of them were recorded in a scrappy studio, some were recorded in space. I don't think any of them were recorded in a prison but...anyway. This is basically all of our favourite tracks from most of our albums.
I know you'll have some faves and you'll be really upset they don't appear well FEAR NOT. The Collection includes SEVEN songs you've probably never heard of anyway. Yes that is right! It's a best of with new tracks. Howdeedoodeee everyone go to the bathroom.

The whole thing is 1 hour 12 minutes and 36 seconds. If you ask me, that is way too long to be listening to this rubbish. But whatever. I wanted to make a note here, a sad note. In 2thousand and something we did officially retire. It was a bit of a lie of course. But this time I do believe this is it. Not for any big reason, just The General has taken his own path now back into the Jazz world, while I'm working in a shop that sells musical fridges.

Since Ekalopse came to be we've produce about 134 songs. (We counted). That's pretty crazy. That's not even including the tracks we worked on with Mr. Bindy, RIP (50) So bringing this down to 23 was.. i guess hard. Though most of our music is terrible so maybe it was not. Our first song and big hit across the globe was 'Ekalopse can't make music'. Since then we've gone from strength to strength producing even more terrible music for your ears. Tracklist and art below.

New logo n stuff

Xtric Plugkits (Our Producers) have produced a logo for us. I don't really get why considering we're retired and all that.
But they said "We understand you're retired but due to the fact you keep releasing music anyway we thought we'd design something for you. We've also organised a World Tour for you.We know it's ambitious and we know The General is in New Orleans at the moment but as soon as he gets back, what do ya say?"
I replied that I'd much rather stay home and eat microwaved meals.

They said "Well tough luck, it's already organised. You'll be touring the countries your pathetic music is most popular. So you'll start in the UK then go to France, Poland, Argentina, Australia. Though America don't want you after your last tour. They said they'll shoot you if you set foot in their country."

Uh.. what what what... Why now? We're RETIRED!

"We want money. And the fans want to hear all the new tracks and your oldies. Just use the track list from your Ekapops collection will you? Don't make this any more complicated than it is. Your flights are booked. Now call The General and let him know."

Blimey, that all happened very fast. I was nodding off during countdown and then suddenly I'm doing a world tour.
We've not done a world tour ... ever really. No ones ever demanded us enough. Maybe it's this new logo. Also.. why is The General doing his baby face ghost impression on it? Blimey, I thought he was a fully grown man.

We lied.

Okay so the truth was spoken. But we may have missed a tid bit out. We made another song before The General disappeared off to New Orleans.

Don't forget you can go check out lots more demos and tracks here and here

Lyrics:
The green man stays at home
it's the only way we know our name
They feel that its ok caus
they're all sitting comfortably.

Theres ones that sing their heart
you have your cup of tea
dont let me bother you caus
its only me
its only me

They're alone, i know
but never told you

They're alone, i know
but they'll never tell you

Can't crawl any further
into the corner
theres a wall i can feel
that steals the tunnels glaze
Can make darkness for yourself
but its never dark enough
never dark enough
can't step to easy street
and fix it all

fix it all

easy street
e-e-e-easy street
e-e-e-easy street

Fix it all on easy street
Green mans there working with a beat
He knows when you should walk
and its a long way to the shop

Just to make sure you're all caught up on the new tracks they are.

1. Swap Meet Sound
2. Come and Go
3. Bruth (Instrumental)
4. Jobfinder
5. Easy Street

Ekalopse Come and Go

Yo Ghostys,
It's Pupendai here.
Just letting you know Ekalopse produced 3 and 1/2 tracks a few days ago. They went straight to soundcloud. Forgot to say, soz bout dat.

Two of them are just jammin (Jobfinder and Bruth). Come and Go is a bit of a 'bye bye for now' from us as we will be taking another break.
The General is going to New Orleans next week to help out and get his groove on. I was going to go with him but I decided I'd miss the microwave meals too much.

So I'll be sitting here all by myself for a while. I usually feel pretty uninspired without his company so I doubt you'll be hearing any music from me.

By the way, Jobfinder is just me reading the job section in a newspaper.

Go check em out here

Swap Meet Sound

Some of you may have come across our secret release 'Ekapops' which was a collection of our favourite tracks.
So recently we asked the public if they could list their top 6 Ekalopse albums! Turned out that no one cared.

But anyway!
Myself (Pupendai) and The General once again hit the recording studio and made another track. This one is titled Swap Meet Sound.
You won't believe it, but I wrote this one. Well if you hate it then you'll probably believe it. That is right. I was on the train and started singing the tunes and everyone started staring at me. How was I to know it was a smoke free zone? ****
I've decided when we next go on Tour if we ever do I'm going to wear a top hat. I reckon that will go down well.
I've been reading on the forums that you guys all think my hat smells caus I've worn it for years well **** you.
Anyway, that is what the song is about. Nah not really. I made it up after seeing the international space station fly by. I also made it up when I realized I am obsessed with finding goodies in bins. Truth be told, who knows what it's about. Ask God.
Ask The General.
