Ekalopse Album History

To celebrate our new album, 'OK, WE WILL' we thought we'd update the blog with a list of each album, all the tracks and covers. This will not include the Best Of collection, "Ekapops"

2008
Album: Fruit-Encyklopedia

Pupendai: "This album is pretty terrible. Mind blowingly terrible. We were still in the early days and a lot of the stuff we did was just stolen sounds from various places. It's revolting. The General (Emailed over from the US): "Makes me sad thinking about it. Too dark a time. Just makes me miss a beautiful person really. The General: "My most brassy album I think. Possibly very epic, a little bit apocalyptic. Might be my fave album, it does fall flat a lot. I reject not doing some things to make it better. Plus Pups voice was pretty terrible. Fave tracks, Airline, War is Over, Radio Rodent.. um... Comrades..."

The General: "I fun little album. I liked to call it the Steamtrain album. I liked The Yeti Man and Steamtrain."

2012
EP: At Our Criminal Worst

Pupendai: "A short few songs. We had not produced much else other than some demos in a long while so just thought... we probably should put some complete sounding songs together. I quite like this EP. Though for me, it's aged quickly."

The General: "This was released without me even knowing! But I'm glad it was. Wings is one of my favourite produced tracks. Mop, the bass player on this EP was the best bass player I'd ever worked with. RIP mate."

Tracklist:
1. Foxtrot

3. Lance is not on this floor
4. Steamtrain

2015
Album: Reality Therapy

Pupendai: "Our most personal album yet. We're experimenting with different sounds, different vocals and lyrics. We take you from drama at home to drama in space, depressing in the soul and love. Heck I don't know. Some tracks are especially there to experiment with sound, some are there especially to  try out some lyrics. Some are there for both reasons. These are all of the tracks of our recent days. I've spoken a lot about my relationships in this one, as well as bringing up the past of Mr. Bindy."

The General: "Well due to the fact that an album was never planned. This is the most relaxed album we could have made! It does make me sad to see Pupendai crying when singing but what the heck! The songs mean a lot to me as well. A song like Living all at Once, possibly a stand out track is just ghostly.... This track is what I've always aimed for in a perfect Ghostpop sound. We do hope people enjoy."

2016
Album: OK, WE WILL

Pupendai: "Since Reality Therapy I have kept writing all these really personal lyrics. It's very embarrassing. But yeah, no change here. Still very personal. The General was not involved too much on this one. It was mostly me and new band member 'Steps Stairs.' But if you ever hear any magic on the album that was most likely The General throwing in something special at the end.
Him being in the U.S makes it a bit difficult. Oh well. This is our new Ekalopse album."

The General: "I really love some of the sounds that have come out of this one. Makes me love my friend, Pupendai even more. I hope he never stops."

Album: Fun but Dead

Pupendai: "Simon (Stairs Steps) basically wrote all these songs and then when The General visited from America he basically said ' scrap this, scrap that, this is amazing, scrap that!' and he added a whole load of other stuff. He really took full advantage of his holiday in the uk. I very rarely saw him leave the studio. He's very passionate about Ekalopse and that makes me so happy.
Though he's kind of upset there are so many song titles with the word 'THE' in it...."

S. Steps: "Ekalopse is a weird monster. Pupendai and the General kind of say, 'anything goes!' and all this mental stuff  happens and it does not really matter if none of it works. It's funny like that. But yeah, I'm proud of what we did. I'm more confident now since the last album. Also, I think I'm the only collab musician to have not died after the first album so that must be a good sign!"

The General: "I'm busy."

Pupendai: "We were just trying to make a happier sounding album after all of the misery in the last 2. There is still some misery hiding here but it's more unleashed and free. We have broken out of the depressing hole that was 'Ok, We Will.' Generally we hope the sound is more jolly.

2017
Album: No Birds

Pupendai: "This album is a bit like Reality Therapy in that it is a mixmatch bag of diffent emotions over a long period of time, mostly depressed... but there are light moments in there like Lighthouse and Short Boat Song. There was a lot more electronic stuff in this one, it was also a bit more experimental than Fun but Dead. Certainly going back Reality Therapy days."

Simon Stairs Steps: "Still enjoying working on the records and have yet to die horrifically! What a thing! I must be good luck. I wrote a lot of songs on this one but my all time fave is Pupendai's 'Never Be Happy.' That poor guy sure has demons."

The General: "I really hope the fans like this one. I do thing is sounds very very Ekalopse, if you like that about us you will hopefully enjoy this. My fave is Comfortable. I'm glad I am back by the way, my jazz career in the US started off well but.......... after a while I became forgettable."

Ekalopse release surprise new album: REALITY THERAPY

So we've had these new tracks lying around. Our faves we stuck on the EKAPOPS collection. But our list was growing to a point we thought, let's just make a new album! Our last album was released in 2011 I believe with only an EP and Collection released since.
2015, the year of Reality Therapy.

Our most personal record yet, and I'll stress that some tracks are so personal we didn't even care what we were doing so they sound terrible....
It's an art piece I suppose. Of depression. I'm not sure if there any happy songs on this album. No Pirates. Though the James Bralant song is oddly disturbing.

Anyway, Reality Therapy is here and this is the cover.

5. Easy Street
6. Come and Go
7. Death of a Lyricist

Coin/Toss

New song released and added to the Ekapops: Ghostpop Collection!
Enjoy!

Single Cover

Coin/Toss Lyrics

We can tell
when you've been looking down the well
There aint no place
I tell you now, there aint no place to call home

Back In, unpack
In a country with someone you love
Back down, unpack
Reality is dawning on you

Packing up, taking notes
Recalling the times you decided
You grounding down, taking naps
Looking up at the stars in the night

It's hollow, you could hide out here
If we lay low. I'll overcome my fears.
I'm over powered with my calm mind
I seem soft boiled.
Breakfast for the soul.

Back In, unpack
In a country with someone you love
Back down, unpack
Reality is dawning on you
